Jeremy D. Edgecliffe-Johnson
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Jeremy Johnson most recently served as President, US Commercial of American International Group, Inc. (“AIG”) from February 2016 to December 2017, with responsibility for underwriting, operations, claims and distribution in the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Puerto Rico. He served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Lexington Insurance Company, AIG’s excess and surplus lines unit, from February 2013 to December 2017. Mr. Johnson served in various executive leadership roles at AIG between 2000 and 2013, including Specialty Product Line Executive, U.S. & Canada, President of Cat Excess Liability, U.S. Executive for Energy Excess Casualty, and Regional Vice President for the Mid-Atlantic territory. Prior to joining AIG, Mr. Johnson was a broker for Sedgwick, Inc. and Marsh, Inc. Mr. Johnson holds a Masters of Arts degree in law from the University of Oxford, UK.
JEREMY F. GOLDSTEIN
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF CLAIMS
Mr. Goldstein is Executive Vice President of Claims for Protective. He has been employed by the Corporation since 2007 and has served in various capacities within the Legal and Claims departments including, General Counsel, Secretary and Vice President. Prior to this he practiced law in Chicago, specializing in civil litigation, tort law and insurance coverage. Mr. Goldstein holds a BA in History from Ball State University and a JD from DePaul University College of Law.
Patrick S. Schmiedt
CHIEF UNDERWRITING OFFICER
Mr. Schmiedt is Chief Underwriting Officer for Protective. He has been employed by the Corporation since 2006 and has served in various capacities within the Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance and Product Development departments. Mr. Schmiedt holds a BS in Business from Butler University, a JD from the Indiana University Mauer School of Law, and an MBA from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
Matthew A. Thompson
Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Mr. Thompson is Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. He has been employed by the Corporation since 2001 and has served in various capacities within the Sales organization. Prior to his employment with Protective, he worked as a Producer for a regional Property/Casualty broker. Mr. Thompson started his insurance career as a front line Claims Adjuster with Farm Bureau Insurance.

Stuart D. Bilton
Mr. Bilton has served as Chairman and CEO of Aston Asset Management, LLC, a diversified investment management firm since 2006. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Aston Funds, a family of 25 mutual funds. Mr. Bilton was Vice Chairman of ABN AMRO Asset Management (US), Inc. from 2003 until 2006 and President and Chief Executive Officer of ABN AMRO Asset Management (US), Inc. from 2001 to 2003.
Steven J. Bensinger
Mr. Bensinger brings over 40 years of experience within the insurance industry in professional and executive level roles. He is currently a Partner & Senior Advisor at TigerRisk Partners, LLC, a leading risk capital and strategic advisor to the global insurance and reinsurance industries. Previously, Steve served as Senior Managing Director of Global Insurance Services at FTI Consulting and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for The Hanover Insurance Group. Steve spent over six years with American International Group, Inc., holding several leadership positions including Senior Vice President, Treasurer and Controller and serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from March 2005 until October 2008. His additional industry experience includes roles at Chartwell Re Corporation, Trenwick Group Ltd., Skandia America Corporation and Combined Specialty Group, Inc.
Otto N. Frenzel IV
Mr. Frenzel has served as Chairman of Kauffman Engineering, Inc., an Indiana-based manufacturer of electrical equipment, since 2001 and he was formerly Chairman of Symphony Bank in Indianapolis from 2005 until 2008.
Stephen J. Gray
Stephen Gray brings over 35 years of advisory experience within the investment banking and consulting industries in executive leadership roles. He has served as a consultant to, and Board Member for, SRC Holdings Corporation, a remanufacturer to original equipment manufacturers in North America, since 2008. Mr. Gray served in several executive roles with divisions of BMO Harris Bank, N.A., including Vice President of Commercial Banking, Senior Vice President of Commercial Mid-Market & Institutional Markets, and serving as President and CEO of Harris Bank, Glencoe from 1999 until 2003. Through his consulting work, Mr. Gray has served as an advisor to the Shapiro family for many years and is a trustee for various Shapiro family entities.

LoriAnn V. Lowery-Biggers
Ms. Lowery-Biggers is currently the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BellaVaughan, Inc., a global diamond and design company. Prior to starting her business, Lowery-Biggers spent over 25 years in various leadership roles in the insurance industry, including with The Navigators Group, Inc., Society of Lloyd's, Wells Fargo Insurance Services, Wells Fargo Captive, and Marsh and McLennan. Lowery-Biggers is also on the board of directors at CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Company and Brown and Riding Insurance, Inc.
David W. Michelson
Mr. Michelson is a 26-year veteran of National Interstate Corporation, where he was most recently a senior advisor for the company from May 2016 through May 2018. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of National Interstate from 2008 until 2016, and was also a Director of the company from 2009 until 2016. He joined National Interstate in 1992 and held multiple leadership roles prior to becoming CEO including Vice President, Senior Vice President, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. David was also Board Chairman of National Interstate Insurance Company from April 2009 until May 2016. Prior to his time at National Interstate, David worked at Liberty National Fire Insurance Company, Reliance Insurance Company and Progressive Corporation.
John D. Nichols, Jr.
Chairman
John “Jay” Nichols joined Protective’s Board of Directors in May-2017 and served as our Interim Chief Executive Officer from October-2018 to May-2019. Prior to this he held the title of Chief Executive Officer at AXIS Re, a leading reinsurer to global property and casualty insurance companies, from 2012-2017. Prior to his tenure at AXIS Re, Mr. Nichols served as President of RenaissanceRe Ventures Ltd. from 2001-2010. Mr. Nichols has also held various leadership positions with Hartford Steam Boiler and Monarch Capital, and previously worked for the accounting firm Matson, Driscoll, and D’Amico. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Delaware North Companies and National General Holdings Corp.
James A. Porcari III
James “Jim” Porcari is the founder and managing partner of Insurance Resources International, LLC – a strategic consulting group for the property and casualty industry. Before founding IRI in 2010, Porcari was President of Personal Lines Claims for AIG (US) from 2002-2009. Prior to joining AIG, Porcari held various leadership positions with several insurers, including GMAC/Integon, USF&G, Transport Group and Progressive. Porcari is also on the Board of Directors for National Truck Protection, Collision Diagnostic Services, Livegenic and Homesite Insurance.
Nathan Shapiro
Mr. Shapiro served as the President of SF Investments, Inc., a broker/dealer in securities from 1970 to 2009. Since December 1977, he has also served as President of New Horizons, Inc. management consultants.
Robert Shapiro
Mr. Shapiro has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Emlin Cosmetics, Inc., a corporation engaged in the manufacture and distribution of cosmetic products, since 1964.
